La boheme

20061121

La boheme
(Royal Opera House, 21 Nov 2006, 7: 30pm)

I was so excited to see the La boheme which is Puccini's most famous and popular opera..
It took about 3hours including interval but I didn't feel tired or bored at all, even I was on standing seat which was the worst seat in the Royal Opera House.. ha..

Incredible performer's voice, tragic story and a scale of the Royal Opera House.. I was so impressed by that!!

On February, there will be "Madame Butterfly" Don't forget to book the ticket!!

It was such a fantastic performance!
Although performers were scenography BA students, they performed very well..

It was inspired by Cervantes Don Quixote which is a novel well known as an idealism and actualism... In the show, there was funny Donkey Khot who was 2metres tall and He fell in love with dwarf...

Playing with shadow.. mime... and puppet.. lots of interesting elements were involved..

Cities & Names

20061120

Workshop with Diego Pitarch

( The story of city)

There is little I can tell you about Aglaura beyond the things its own inhabitants have always repeated: an array of proverbial virtues, of equally proverbial faults, a few eccentricities, some punctilious regard for rules. Ancient observers, whom there is no reason not to presume truthful, attributes to Aglaura its enduring assortment of qualities, surely comparing them to those of the other cities of their times. Perhaps neither the Aglaura that is reported nor the Aglaura that is visible has greatly changed since then, but what was bizarre has become usual, what seemed normal is now an oddity, and virtues and faults have lost merit or dishonor in a code of virtues and faults differently distributed. In this sense, nothing said of Aglaura is true, and yet these accounts create a solid and compact image of a city, whereas the haphazard opinions which might be inferred from living there have less substance. This is the result : the city that they speak of has much of what is needed to exist, whereas the city that exists on its site, exists less.
So if I wished to describe Aglaura to you, stricking to what I personally saw and experienced, I should have to tell you that it is a colorless city, without character, planted there at random. But this would not be true, either : at certain hours, in certain places along the street, you see opening before you the hint of something unmistakable, rare, perhaps magnificent ; you would like to say what it is, but everything previously said of Aglaura imprisons your words and obliges you to repeat rather than say.
Therefore, the inhabitants still believe they live in an Aglaura which grows only with the name Aglaura and they do not notice the Aglaura that grows on the ground. And even I, who would like to keep the two cities distinct in my memory, can speak only of the one, because the recollection of the other, in the lack of words to fix it, has been lost.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My work was from these questions.... How can people say that the ancient city exsit or not? What is true? Can you believe the city even you did not see it? How does the city look like? colorless and dry?

It is Nothing.. exist, not exist(It is different with absent)...

I intended to show two different cities.. I supposed that it lookes like city by the covered building shape in the outside however in the inside, it is nonexistent city and it could be nothing. There was empty...

How and what do you believe?
What is the true?

Momix

08-Nov-06

Momix <Peacock theatre, 7:30pm>

First impression was suprise... Because spinning dancer's body.. flowing water into the full moon.. different perspective tree.. lots of elements were really similar with my work which I performed in Korean National Theatre with dance director... oh...

Also, I have thought about body shape or showing some part of body image.. For example, I intended to try making a film with wearing blue tights except some part of body such as arm, ear.. and then editing... (deleted blue part) but it was not working... I have considered how I can show part of body effectively.. Momix was expressed body shape well... wow....

In Momix, they wore black and white tights and performed with anonymous figure(?)... I was quite interesting their idea how to work and play with body, however I didn't like it... to be honest, it was ridiculous to me.. Especially sound, dance performance and motion graphic didn't go together harmonically.. I liked movement from dancer with B&W tights but after 20minute I was got bored... too much expectation watching 'Momix' ... um.....

Tideland (2005) Brazil (1985)
Directed by Terry Gilliam

2006.10.31

I, mong-han and Alan went to the cinema where is near Hammersmith station (Riverside studio??) as soon as finishing our projection workshop!! it was started at 6:00 however we finished at 5:30 in the school.... From Wimbledon to Hammersmith... Run Yunkyung Run!!! um...

I booked the ticket for two movies which are made by Terry Gilliam.
Brazil, which was one of the films, was made in 1985 and I watched it before in Korea. It was talked about dream.. During watching film, I was confusing what truth is... Dream vs Real life..

I have interested in Dream and Surrealism since first grade in Uni and I have had a lot of nightmare and strange dream(?) so I used to draw as soon as waking up.. usaully I leaved drawing book near my bed!!! It's my inspiration for work!!!!

Second film was 'Tideland'(2005)
I was so impressed!! It was exactly my taste!!!!!!!!! Even the story was melancholy, I liked it very much. I could be felt on my dream through the film. Fantasy!!! the film evoked "Alice adventure in wonderland" it was influenced by "Alice..." however more frighten....

These days I am doing research about German Expressionism. Most of film which I like have similar element.. such as Dream, Surrealism, Fantasy..
How can I connect my work with that element?? and How can I pitch the story??

In conclusion... ha.... I need more Research.. STUDY!!!!!!!!!!!
